I have asked my clients why they decided to work with me and these are some of the reasons so I thought I would share with you.
Recommendation and great reviews
A lot of my business comes from word of mouth and recommendations, so I suppose that is one of the reasons initially that a lot of people come to me for help. I also have really good 5* Google reviews from the clients that I have worked with and lovely testimonials too – have a read.
Both Business and Marketing expertise
Most consultants have either one or the other skills sets and aren’t necessarily set up to help with both business strategy and marketing strategy. Whereas I can take a holistic view of the business and help wherever help is needed. I have run my own businesses since I was 25. One failed (a good learning experience), two sold to bigger independent agencies (which was fantastic) and a couple of others, including my current consultancy. I have also sat on the board of one of the agencies that bought us so I have quite a lot of experience at board level too. At the moment I sit on the advisory board of Wonder Women TV.
My marketing experience comes from working in the marketing sector for the last 20 years. I have had various roles in marketing, but the main one being running a media agency for 10 years. Since selling that I have done work with lots of businesses of varying sizes, helping them to grow their business and put together a proper marketing strategy and plan. My stint at Google was short and sweet! I thought it would be my dream job but I soon realised it wasn’t for me as I missed the variety of working with multiple clients (and being able to manage my own diary and day)
I have done Seth Godin’s marketing seminar, Seth Godin’s Podcasting Fellowship, The Mini MBA with Marketing Week, Google Squared Digital Training, Internet Marketing Diploma … the list goes on. You could say that I love learning and I’m constantly looking to extend my skillset so that I can deliver loads of value for my clients.
Great network of suppliers and agencies
So many businesses that I start working with have been burnt in the past and wasted money on ‘experts’ or agencies who didn’t deliver. They might well have been good agencies or freelancers but if there was no strategy in place then it’s likely that what they were doing/ spending money on was a complete waste of time. I have been doing this for over 20 years (can’t quite believe that but it’s true) and met some fantastic people over this time. Nearly all of the suppliers I recommend and work with have already worked with me on other projects or come highly recommended from people within my network. So you can rest assured that I will have that covered.
Help to implement the strategy
It’s really key that you don’t just have a strategy for your business or marketing but that you can actually implement it too. I will work with you over a period of time (normally at least 6 months) where I will set the strategy with you, and then help you implement it. Often using my preferred suppliers as in the point above.
I let you focus on what you are good at and try to free up your time so that you don’t have to worry about the day to day nitty-gritty when it comes to marketing. In many cases, I will oversee the implementation of the campaigns. I will help find the right resources and then manage the agencies/ freelancers or train up your internal marketing team.
I work with you and your internal team to offer training if needed and to really help the team understand what we’re doing. I want to make sure that everyone in the company is fully onboard and that they understand the business/ marketing strategy and plan.
My love of Numbers
I did Economics Accounting and Law at uni. So when it comes to reading a profit and loss account and that kind of thing, then I’ve got that covered. When I ran my agency I oversaw all the finance – making sure that everyone paid us on time and we knew what was going on.
Numbers are super important in business and I’m very hot on measuring what is working and keeping my beady eye on the income and profit! When you start working with me we will be measuring everything, analysing what is working and you’ll have a clear idea of where the money is coming from and how to grow.
